Dendrobiums are one of the largest of the orchid genera. An estimated 1200 species are found in India, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. 500 more species are said to be found throughout New Guinea.
Dendrobium plants thrive in hot and steamy tropical lowlands, but can also be found in altitudes up to 10,000 feet. The Dendrobium genus is so diverse that it is hard to generalize their cultural needs. Most Dendrobiums prefer bright light and prefer reduced amounts of watering periods.
